Pulled Pork Nachos are a heaping mound of flavor.

Filling Our Tanks At Playmakers Sports Bar & Grill

What would a day trip be without at least one meal away from home? While in Chanute, Kansas we planned our lunch break to coincide with being near Playmakers Sports Bar & Grill in the downtown area. Our schedule had kept us busy not just through the morning, but also the first half of the afternoon. By the time we made it to the restaurant, we were famished. Fortunately, we were hitting them up at an off lunch-rush peak, so it made our service quick.

We want to thank the Chanute, Kansas Tourism Office and Playmakers for their hospitality. Rest assured that all opinions are our own.

Playmakers New Digs

Playmakers is a sports themed hangout, which is popular with the locals. During our earlier stops we had mentioned our lunch choice, and it was met with pleasing agreement. They recently moved to a new location that offers more space for their growing clientele. As we stepped through the doorway, we were met with an fun display that gets the sports mood rolling.

The interior is spacious with a decent sized bar on one side. The majority of the seating is booths, but there were a handful of tables also available. One wall is a huge chalkboard, which was popular with a couple of children who were having a late lunch with their parents. The theme continues throughout the space and covers a multitude of different types of sports. They even have a lit scoreboard decorating the area around the entrance to the restaurant.

Getting Our Eats On

The manager was assisting us during our visit, and gave us some tips on the most popular dishes. While we opted not to try the BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos, she brought over a plate of them for us to see. (Pictured at top of article.) That is one plateful of flavors. This one was headed toward the kitchen to satisfy the cooking crew, but we also noticed a table nearby dining on one. Crystal saw this and decided to put her own spin on it and ordered Grilled Chicken Nachos. Being less daring, she chose to leave off the jalapenos, as well as most all of the other accompaniments. Even with her dish fairly bare, she struggled to finish half of the heaping mound.

A delicious burger waits to be eaten.

I was in the mood for some beef, so I ordered up the Blackjack Burger. This hefty Angus beef patty is seasoned with a blackening spice and topped with pepper jack cheese. Toss on the lettuce, pickles, and tomato and it helps keep the heat in check. A side of Sweet Potato Fries helped round out my meal and added a crispy bite. By the time we had finished our meals, our tanks were replenished for more exploring. We said our goodbyes and headed back out onto Main Street to see more of Chanute. When was your last visit to this southeast Kansas town?
