The Phoenix is a historic Kansas City destination for a jazzy brunch.

New Year’s Eve at The Phoenix: A Jazzed Up Brunch

As 2024 drew to a close, we decided to start our New Year’s Eve celebrations with a memorable brunch at The Phoenix. This historic jazz club, in Kansas City, has a reputation for good vibes, great food, and live music that feeds the soul. Located at 302 W. 8th Street, this KC eatery resides on the first floor of the historic Phoenix Hotel. With our daughter Amanda joining us, it was a perfect opportunity to soak in the festive spirit and enjoy a relaxing meal.

The highlight of our visit to The Phoenix was the live jazz trio.

Joining the Brunch Crowd

Stepping into The Phoenix, we were immediately struck by the lively atmosphere. The hum of conversations blended seamlessly with the smooth sounds of the live jazz trio. The band’s melodies created the perfect backdrop, setting the tone for a laid-back yet celebratory experience. The warm, inviting decor added to the historic charm, making us feel like we’d discovered a cozy hideaway in the heart of the city.

Jeff enjoyed a stack of French Toast drizzled with maple syrup.

Not so Simple Toast

Our food journey began with my order of French Toast, a simple yet flavorful dish. The batter-dipped slices of bread were perfectly caramelized. A dusting of powdered sugar and the fresh fruit garnish added a touch of elegance. I drizzled them with maple syrup, creating a sweet symphony of flavors. It was indulgent, comforting, and everything I wanted in a brunch treat. Paired with an Irish Coffee, I was in heaven, as the sweet jazz melodies filled my thoughts.

The Chicken and Waffle was a hit at our table.

Southern Connections

Crystal and Amanda chose the Chicken & Waffles, a classic done right. The waffle made the perfect bed for the crispy golden fried chicken. A drizzle of maple syrup added a delightful sweetness that tied the dish together beautifully. It was hearty, satisfying, and kept them going back for bite after bite.

Sharing this experience with Amanda made the visit even more special. The Phoenix offered us more than just a meal; it gave us a space to welcome the new year together. Between the delicious food, the soothing jazz, and the lively yet relaxed atmosphere, it’s safe to say this was a brunch to remember. If you’re looking for a spot that combines great music and food, The Phoenix is a historic Kansas City gem you don’t want to miss.
